Detoxification is becoming more and more important in today’s world, because there are more and more toxins in our environment.  The body needs many nutrients for detoxifying, and your best defense against chemicals is to eat a nutrient-dense diet like we have been talking about.  However, there are many that think that even if you eat the best diet, you will need to supplement in order to help your body detoxify all the numerous chemicals we are exposed to in today’s world

Detoxifying Uses Nutrients!

This is because the work of detoxifying uses up nutrients which will then not be available for other uses in the body.  Some of they key nutrients for detoxifying include:

  • B Vitamins
  • C Vitamin Complex
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin E
  • Minerals, especially Magnesium and trace minerals like Selenium and Iodine
  • Amino Acids & Glutathione, which is made from amino acids
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids

So make sure you are getting enough of these vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients.  Many have felt better by supplementing with trace minerals, whey protein and omega-3 fatty acids.


Detox Drinks - High in Vitamins and Phytonutrients


Morning Lemon Green Tea Detox Flush

  • Organic Green Tea
  • 2 Slices organic Lemon

Drink this tea first thing in the morning, nice and warm.  Use boiling water, and let the tea steep along with the lemon slices for 10-15 minutes, covered.  This tea is great for your elimination and detoxing.  If it is too tart, you could add a teaspoon of real Maple Syrup, but it’s better if you can just drink it like it is! 


Apple Cucumber Detox Juice

For this one, you need a juicer.  We highly recommend the Omega Juicer, or if you are on a tight budget, the Jack Lalane Juices works pretty good too (just not as good at juicing leafy greens).

  • 1 wedge organic lemon
  • 1 organic apple, any sweet kind
  • 1 organic granny smith, or other tart apple, like macintosh
  • 1/2 organic cucumber

Core the apples, but do not peel.  Use the lemon, seeds and all.  If you prefer it more tart, use 2 wedges of lemon.  If your cucumber is small, you could use a whole one.  If you put the lemon in first, this helps the juice retain it’s good color and not oxidize.  But it still needs to be drunk immediately after juicing.

Did you know?  Juicing helps to flush out toxins and also provides much needed nutrients, like vitamins and phytonutrients.  I rarely recommend water fasting anymore, it seems most people are simply too low in many nutrients to be able to handle that in a productive way!

Juicing for detoxing can mean doing the Lemon Green Tea Detox Flush on most mornings for a week, and other juices several times a week, or can be a replacement for your meals for 1-3 days +. 

Note:  if you feel weak, light-headed, dizzy, fatigued, nauseated or get headaches, these are signs of detoxing too fast!  Many people think they just have to get through this and this may be true for very minor signs of detoxing, but if it is really bothering you, you are probably doing too much too fast, or you need more vitamins and other nutrients to help boost your detoxification system before detoxing at the same pace.
