Cancer
|
There are lots of studies out there showing that many vitamins, minerals and nutritional supplements can have a positive effect on cancer prevention*. Once you have cancer, your disease itself, as well as many conventional treatments, can use up more nutrients in your body, so taking supplements might be especially helpful*. |
Common Symptoms of Cancer

Depends on your type of cancer, although most cancer patients do have considerable fatigue. |
Common Causes of Cancer
|
Well, I think we all know that cancer is caused by cells that have gone awry and multiply when they should not. When we have too many free radicals in our body, they can damage the cells and end up causing cancer. Exposure to increased amounts of free-radical-causing pollution and chemicals in our environment, foods and water today seems to be a huge factor in the development of cancer, along with the decrease in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in most of our diets today. This decrease in vitamins and other nutrients can lower our immune system defense and make it more likely that we develop cancer. |
Vitamins, Minerals and Nutritional Supplements
|
Antioxidant vitamins are crucial for quenching free radicals, and include the polyphenols in green tea, DHLA that quenches all known free radicals, vitamins B, C and E and selenium. The vast majority of 90 studies looking taking Vitamin C as a nutritional supplement or including lots of vitamin C rich foods in the diet have shown positive results*. Vitamin C, Green Tea, Goji Juice and anything else that boosts the immune system can also be very useful*, since cancer is a disease that attacks those with poorly functioning immune systems. Besides cancer prevention, there have been many studies showing an ability of vitamins and other nutrients, both in foods and in nutritional supplements, to reverse cancer and/or significantly increase the lifespan of those diagnosed with cancer. We cannot possibly go into all of the details here, but you might want to get a few books about this, like Dr Patrick Quillin's "Beating Cancer with Nutrition". As Dr. Quillin says, "nutrition is not a magic bullet against all cancers, … but (it) can dramatically improve the quantity and quality of life and chances for complete remission for people with cancer." Greens like barley and wheat grass and chlorella as well as Noni Juice can add much needed vitamins and minerals and also help to detoxify your body. The polyphenols in green tea are powerful antioxidants that can enhance the immune system and help you fight cancer.* S. Coles and S.B. Harris, in "Co-enzyme Q-10 and life extension" show that Co-enzyme Q-10 can increase life expectancy 5 to 15 years for various forms of cancer.* Resveratrol, found in red wine, the skin of grapes and most berries, including raspberries, has been shown to stop the conversion of healthy cells into cancerous cells* (Science Magazine, M. Jang et al, "Cancer chemo-preventative activity of resveratrol, a natural product derived from grapes," 1997.) The “Super Juices”, Goji Berry Juice, Noni Juice, Mangosteen Juice and the Acai Berry Juice all seem to be powerful additions to any diet, and all seem to help boost immunity*. Noni is especially good for detoxification*, and Acai Berry seems to help with protein & EFA deficiencies*, often seen in cancer patients. An LA Times article said that Goji has been shown to have anti-cancer and antioxidant properties in many research tests. Your liver and your kidneys are crucial to helping your body detoxify and for cleaning out things that might be contributing to your cancer*. Keep your liver and kidneys clean with herbs, Noni Juice, and other supplements.* Any supplements that add much needed vitamins or minerals to your diet or help you to detoxify can also be useful.* Also, modified citrus pectin has shown an ability to keep cancerous cells from metastasizing, or spreading.* Recommended Vitamins & Nutritional Supplements*:

Food Choices

Foods that are high in antioxidant vitamins are very important, so make sure to get lots of vitamin rich fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, especially those with beta-carotene like carrots and lycopene-containing tomato products. Goji Juice is very high in antioxidants. The cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower have also been shown to contain substances that can help you fight off cancer*. (These are better eaten cooked or cultured, however, as eating too much of them raw tends to depress the thyroid and cause other problems.) Garlic is also very important to include in your diet for cancer prevention*. Avoid polyunsaturated oils and all trans-fatty acids. Avoid refined foods as well, especially sugar, as that feeds cancer cells, and meats processed with nitrates, which have been shown to be carcinogens*. Some other foods with anti-cancer potential are: onions, shiitake mushrooms, yogurt and sea vegetables (seaweeds like kelp and kombu).* A beet, carrot and cucumber juice can help to clean out your liver and kidneys.* There are many people who recommend a macrobiotic or vegetarian diet for those with cancer. Although this can be very detoxifying and beneficial in the short run*, over the long term you will be missing a lot of useful vitamins and other nutrients if you continue to avoid animal fats. Animal fats actually contain many nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin D and saturated fats that protect against cancer*. Higher rates of cancer are in truth linked to the consumption of large amounts of vegetable oils. In case you're still afraid of increasing animal fats in your diet, we just want you to know that the original admonishment to stay away from animal fat in order to reduce cancer risk was actually based on a study that used processed vegetable fat data that was mistakenly labeled as "animal fat". Other Ideas
|
Get exercise if you can, get some sun on your skin every day if possible, and avoid tobacco, sugar (that seems to feed the cancer cells), X-rays and excessive alcohol*. Try to reduce your exposure to toxins in your environment, including those from building materials, carpets, mattresses & bedding, cleaning products and personal care products*. At the very least, try to make your bedroom an “oasis” with an organic mattress & bedding, and hard flooring. We recommend the all wool system by Shepherd’s Dream. Besides using "beyond organic" vitamins and supplements, try to eat 100% organic if at all possible.* * This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA.
