Weight Loss and Vitamins & Supplements
Obesity May Be A Sign Of Deficiency

Many people don’t realize that often times obesity is an indication of nutritional deficiencies.  Sometimes our bodies are starving for micro nutrients like certain vitamins or minerals, and we keep eating and eating, searching for those nutrients that are not contained in large enough quantities in the foods we are eating.  Sometimes this is because we eat too many refined foods like those with white sugar and flour in them.  Consumption of white sugar, for example, uses up B vitamins and minerals in the body.  Sometimes this is simply because we are eating the wrong foods, or the ones we are choosing are lacking in vitamins and minerals.

Your Foods Need to Be Vitamin Rich

You need real, nutrient-dense, vitamin filled foods like our ancestors ate order to nourish your body and be healthy as well as regain a normal weight.  In fact, the more nutrient-dense your food is, the less of it you need to eat to satisfy your body’s nutritional needs.  Along these lines, always try to eat organically or direct from the farm, if possible.  Organic foods not only are grown without pesticides and artificial fertilizers, but studies have shown them to contain more vitamins and minerals.  These are some of the best foods to consume while trying to lose weight:

  • Organic or Farm-Fresh Vegetables, lots of non-starchy ones
  • Cultured Vegetables
  • Meat, Full-Fat Dairy and Eggs from Pastured Animals if at all possible
  • Full-Fat Dairy Products from Grass-Fed Cows, Raw if Possible
  • Coconut Oil, Coconut Milk, Coconut Flakes
  • Wild Salmon

Try especially to get some grass-fed beef and dairy, which have been shown to be high in CLA which can help you to lose weight.  CLA stands for conjugated linoleic acid, and although not a vitamin, it is a nutrient which has strong anticancer properties and encourages the buildup of muscle and prevents weight gain.  NOTE:  CLA disappears when cows are fed even small amounts of processed feed or grain – so CLA is not in most conventional, regular-grocery store bought beef or dairy products.  You need to look for grass-fed varieties.

Always eat grains and starchy vegetables with some good quality fat like coconut oil or butter in order to slow down the absorption of the sugars, and limit the quantity to 1 slice of bread or cup of grains per meal while you are trying to lose weight.  NOTE:  Often “low carb” dieters cut out all or most grains, and end up craving them.  This may be because of nutrients such as B vitamins that your body needs that are in unrefined grains that are missing in your diet if you are too restrictive concerning grains.

Green tea and more concentrated in green tea extract, although not a vitamin, does contain some powerful phytonutrients and can help you to lose weight because it, like coconut oil, is thermogenic.  That means it revs up your metabolism.

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements Can Help You Lose Weight

Since many of us are deficient in certain nutrients from years of eating less than optimal refined foods, and much of our food, even when organic or whole foods are consumed, is grown in mineral-deficient soils, we do recommend certain vitamin and mineral supplements as an adjunct to your weight loss program.  Remember, if you are feeding your body all the nutrients it needs, your cravings usually will disappear and make it much easier to lose weight.  Synthetic vitamins may sometimes serve their purpose in increasing your intake of certain nutrients, however, many studies have shown that the body can more easily assimilate vitamins and minerals that occur naturally in foods.  Also, consuming isolated nutrients can sometimes make you more deficient in other nutrients over the long run.  This is why we can only recommend whole food supplements, not synthetic vitamins and minerals.

Some of the most important vitamins to supplement while trying to lose weight include B vitamins, C  vitamins.  The B vitamins help you to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and the C complex seems to help rev up you metabolism in general.  Best vitamin B supplements include nutritional yeast and natural food souce living B vitamins.  C complex natural vitamin sources include camu-camu and acerola berries, grasses and greens.

Kevin Trudeau’s new book “The Weight Loss Cure” talks about using whole food supplements as an adjunct to your weight loss program, and he is now recommending the same whole food brand of vitamin and mineral supplements that we do:  Quantum Nutrition Labs.
